How much energy do you spend each day on physical activities? How much energy is consumed each day with spiritual concerns? The body and the spirit rely on each other for support; one suffers if the other is neglected. Finding the right balance between physical energy and spiritual energy is necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle. An overactive spiritual energy can cause physical weakness, lethargy and exhaustion as well as lower the body’s natural immunities to disease. An overactive expenditure of physical energy can cause anxiety, stress, confusion and nervousness. Try the following simple exercise to see the difference in your levels of physical and spiritual energy. Divide a sheet of paper into two columns. Label the first column “’ Physical Energy” and the second column “Spiritual Energy”. In the first column write down all the physical activities that you take part in on a typical day, try to list as many activities as you can. Include things like carrying groceries, walking the dog, playing with the children. Begin with your morning routines and end with going to sleep. Now, in the second column make a list of every type of spiritual activity that you perform in a typical day. This can include things like meditation, counseling and teaching your children, reading, creating, planning, prayer or any other activity that requires you to expend mental and spiritual energy. Now think carefully about the activities in your life. Which activities truly utilize the strength of your spirit? If you are like many people then you may notice that you spend the majority of your time performing physical tasks while neglecting to exercise your spiritual self. Just as common are the people who spend a lopsided amount of time and energy using mental or spiritual energy while the physical self is neglected. Try to evaluate the disparity in energy levels between the two types. Are you perhaps spending eighty percent of your time on physical activities and twenty on spiritual ones? Create a list of possible ways to find more balance in your energy levels and incorporate these things into your daily routine. Seeking a balance between spiritual and physical activities and energies will result in an improvement of both aspects of your health and wellbeing. As many of you know, I sometimes see information in the form of colors surrounding your physical body. I can perceive emotions, thoughts, faith, and where you store these things in the physical body. As with the energy of the emotion of love, the use of laughter also serves as a powerful energy calibrator. When you laugh, it recharges you, and heavier waves of energy such as fear and anger are immediately converted into higher waves of energy. When you laugh, you can almost feel a change come over you; not just emotionally, but energetically as well. If you are in a situation where you are fearful, you should simply laugh. Really! An Elder of the Lakota nation once said that he was required to belly laugh for two solid minutes along with other elders of various nations prior to negotiations with the many nations. The elders were using the knowledge that laughter changes the body and the environment around you as your energy bodies extend outward and actually impact the environment you are in. Can you imagine what some laughter would do before a presidential debate?! We also know via research that the use of laughter has major impact on physical health and our emotional states. That makes sense knowing that laughter calibrates all the energy in your body! Have you ever noticed that some of the most powerful Kahunas, Shamans, and Mystics often laugh and tell jokes? Just imagine how the world would change if our world leaders laughed everyday! That may be a daydream, but in the meantime we can each try to do this ourselves. Make an intentional commitment to belly laugh for two minutes every day. You will start to see how light-hearted you become, as you develop the ability to laugh at yourself in all your faults in the physical body. Laughter makes being a human being easier! What a powerful impact this can make, even though it is so simple! |
